Pick-up Information
Bulk drop sites
Bulk drops are locations where members package their own shares. There will always be information telling
members what quantities to take.
How it works
- We maintain a members list for each site; please find your name on the list and check it off.
It is important to check your name on the list so that we know who has already picked up a share.
- Please bring your own bags. If you forget, there are bags at the site.
- There will be signs listing how much of each vegetable is to be taken.
- Scales will be available when items need to be weighed.
- One of us will be at the site to answer questions or just to chat
Composting
Each week at the bulk drop sites we do a compost bucket swap.
- At the first drop we will give you a clean five gallon bucket with a lid.
- Each week, we ask you to bring your compost to us.*
- In exchange we will give you a clean bucket.
*It is important that you bring us your compost bucket even if it is not entirely full.
For us, cleaning compost buckets with more than one week's accumulation makes for a more
difficult (not to mention smelly) task. We appreciate your effort on this.
Splitting the share
- We provide knives and cutting boards to facilitate splitting of shares at all the bulk pick-up sites.
- If you do split the share at the pick up site, please be sure to take the whole
share out of the boxes before splitting.
- Typically the first share partner to arrive packs a bag for the
second partner.
- Bags can be left for the second share partner if they are going to pick up later.
- Also, be aware that there are some items that we give out only on alternate weeks. For example,
if you choose to alternate weeks with your share partners you may never see onions and your share
partner may never see leeks.
Free box
Please take all of your vegetables. If there is something you do not like or have too much of,
please still remove it from the bulk boxes and put it in the free box. This will make some other
member very happy.
Arriving late or Missing a pick up
If you know you will miss a drop, we encourage you to contact a friend or a family member to come in your place. If
finding a replacement is not feasible your share will be donated.
If you forget to pick up your share, it will be donated.
- Friendly House
-
- If you know you will miss the hours of the Thursday drop at the Friendly House contact us and we
will bag your produce and leave it in the bin at 2845 NW Raleigh. You can pick it up until 5pm on Friday. After 5pm on Friday the share will become the property of the home owner.
- Otherwise any food that is not claimed between 5pm and 7pm will be donated
to the Friendly House Community Center's feeding programs.
- Members' homes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
-
- If you will be late for a drop, call us and we will bag and
leave your food for 24 hours at the site.
- Otherwise all unclaimed food will be donated.
Parking
Please keep in mind the following parking considerations.
- SE Ankeny Bulk Drop - there will be no parking on Floral.
- SE Elliot Bulk Drop - please park on Elliot.
- NW Friendly House Bulk Drop - the Community Center is a public gathering space and parking spaces fill
up in front. However, there are plenty of spaces around the corner or a block or two away.
