Hiring Apprentices for Summer 2008

Sauvie Island Organics, LLC, (SIO) is an 18-acre farm located on Sauvie Island, 20 minutes from downtown Portland. We cultivate 11 acres, specializing in a diversity of high quality fruits and vegetables for the fresh direct market. SIO markets its produce through a 225-member CSA and to local restaurants.

Apprenticeship description

We are currently accepting applicants for a 5 month summer apprentice program, May 2008 through September, 2008. The apprenticeship is intended to be an introduction to organic vegetable farming. Ideal applicants are those interested in farming with a desire to work hard on a farm and learn while doing so. Apprentices will gain experience in planting, weeding, field projects, harvesting and packing. The majority of the educational component will be based on learning from the experience of working on a well established farm.

Compensation

A stipend is paid at the end of each month. Apprentices have access to farm vegetables. Cabins are available for summer housing.
