In 2005, Sauvie Island Organics’ founder Shari Raider along with Portland chef Cory Schreiber co-founded the Sauvie Island Center. Their vision was to bring farm-based education opportunities to Portland area kids. Together they created the Sauvie Island Center a nonprofit that provides hands-on educational field trips at Sauvie Island Organics and the surrounding Metro lands. The curriculum teaches kids about farms, the food they grow and the landscape in which they exist. Born out of a unique partnership between farmers, educators and culinary professionals, the Sauvie Island Center has educated more than 15,000 youth since 2005.
